"All buses and trains we got in were crowded. I know this is not necessarily related to the Roma Pass, but the city needs to invest in putting more vehicles on the streets to accommodate the high demand."

Choose Your 2 Free Attractions
Activate the pass at your first museum or archaeological site — this starts your 72-hour clock. Your first two entries are free, including Capitoline Museums, Castel Sant'Angelo, and 40+ other sites. Colosseum requires separate advance booking.
Ride Rome's Public Transport
Tap your Roma Pass at any metro turnstile or show it to bus drivers. All metro lines (A, B, B1, C), ATAC buses, trams, and urban trains are included for the full 72 hours — no separate transport tickets needed.
Enjoy 40+ Discounted Sites

What Guests Say About the Roma Pass
"Everyrhing worked well. Easy to use Roma Pass. To make for 4 and 5 days Roma Pass"
"Absolutely great for getting around and worth the money too, especially 2 attractions included"
"Great value for money - you get 2 free entries to the top attractions (just make sure to pre-book) plus travel for 3 days across Rome which is the best part"
"Great value for money with access to places and unlimited use of public transport"
"Having the Roma pass made our holiday a lot easier being able to jump on the metro train and buses. Will definitely let friends and family know about these."
"Very handy pass for getting around with, no hassles and very convenient also with the added bonus of a couple of access passes included. Could be doing with a wee laminated pass as it's cardboard and a little flimsy. 👍👍"
"It’s nice having one pass for the metro and the bus. I find it a bit expensive."
"super this idea. Just do not expect that at 18h30 durring working day is not possible to pick up the card atnthe airoport! would be nice to know in advace. Please add opening hours for boty airoports"

"Trip was okay. would be nicer if the coliseum is full experience"

"Using the transport was fairly easy, but finding the pick up point at the airport was a bit difficult. Instructions on how to get there were not good. However, once there we recieved excellent service and help from Ariana, which we so much appreciated. Thank you, Ariana, for helping us to an excellent start to our visit to Rome."
"If you go to Rome this is a must. Easy to use and saves lots of money and time"
"The Roma pass was easy to use , getting on and off the transport was so straightforward, would definitely purchase again when I hopefully return to Rome for another trip"
"Sometimes when using the card to enter the metro, it failed even although I had over a full day left on it. Staff were not very helpful when you were trying to get through the barriers. when it did work, it was very straight forward. I'd highly recommend it for visiting lots of different places"
"Very easy to pickup at the tourist info center next to colosseum. Ended up hurting myself on an e-bike and wasn’t able to get full value out of the pass, but had planned to do so easily."

Check Availability & BookFrequently Asked Questions About the Roma Pass
Everything you need to know before buying Rome's official city card.
For most visitors staying 2–3 days and planning to visit 3 or more attractions, the Roma Pass pays for itself. Two free entries alone cover the Capitoline Museums ($22) and Castel Sant'Angelo ($18), and unlimited public transport for 72 hours replaces 6+ single tickets ($1.50 each). If you plan to visit the Colosseum, Vatican Museums, or Borghese Gallery, add those individual tickets on top — the pass still saves you 30–40% on everything else.
The Colosseum is listed among the 40+ partner sites eligible for discounted entry with the Roma Pass, but it does not cover arena floor or underground access, and advance online booking is still required regardless of your pass. For your two free entries, most guests choose the Capitoline Museums or Castel Sant'Angelo — both skip-the-line eligible and easier to book.
Your Roma Pass includes: (1) Free skip-the-line entry to your first 2 attractions from 40+ eligible sites; (2) Unlimited public transport for 72 hours — all metro lines (A, B, B1, C), ATAC buses, trams, and urban trains within Rome; (3) Discounted entry at all remaining partner museums and archaeological sites; (4) A free city map; (5) Free access to P.Stop public toilets across Rome; (6) Discounts with participating exhibitions, events, and service providers.
The 72-hour pass (3 days) is the better value for most visitors. It includes 2 free attraction entries vs 1 for the 48-hour version, and the extra day of public transport means you can reach neighbourhoods like Trastevere, EUR, or Ostia Antica comfortably. The 48-hour pass works if you're only in Rome for a weekend and visiting one major site — otherwise, the 72-hour pass saves more.
On ATAC buses, show your Roma Pass card to the driver when boarding — no need to validate it in a machine. On the metro, tap the Roma Pass card on the yellow reader at any turnstile gate. The card is pre-loaded with unlimited rides; each tap deducts one journey. If the gate shows a red light, note the time and date on the back of your card and inform the driver or inspector — this is a known intermittent issue.
At any metro station, tap your Roma Pass against the circular yellow validator at the turnstile — it will flash green and the gate opens. This works on all lines (A, B, B1, C). The pass activates automatically on first use and the 72-hour window begins from that moment, not from when you pick up the card. You can delay activation to match your itinerary.
No. The Colosseum underground (hypogeum) is a premium add-on that requires a separate ticket and advance booking, regardless of which pass or card you hold. The Roma Pass gives discounted entry to the standard Colosseum visit, but underground and arena floor access are sold separately and often sell out weeks in advance — book these directly on the official Colosseo site.
You can book the official Roma Pass through GetYourGuide — select your preferred dates, complete payment, and receive a voucher by email. Present the voucher at any Tourist Information Point (PIT) across Rome to collect your physical card. You can also buy the pass in person at any PIT, but online booking guarantees availability and avoids queues at the collection points.
The Roma Pass does not handle Colosseum reservations — you must book those separately through the official Colosseo website or a licensed reseller. Once you have both your Roma Pass (for the discounted rate) and your Colosseum timed-entry ticket, show both at the entrance. Without an advance reservation, you will not be admitted even with a pass.
For most first-time visitors: the Roma Pass is the best value at $64 for 72 hours — it balances transport, two free entries, and 40+ discounts. The Omnia Vatican and Rome Pass ($174) is better if the Vatican Museums are your priority, as it includes a guided Vatican tour. The Omnia Smart Digital City Pass ($116) is good for a single packed day. For a 1-day sprint, the 24-hour Vatican City Card ($81) works if your entire visit centres on the Vatican.
Key benefits: skip-the-line entry at 2 attractions; unlimited metro, bus, and tram rides for 72 hours; 30% discount at 40+ additional museums and sites; free city map and public toilet access; flexibility to activate whenever you're ready. The pass activates on first use — not on purchase — so you can buy it in advance and start the 72-hour clock on your terms.
The digital Roma Pass works via a QR code on your smartphone — no physical card needed. Scan the QR at metro gates and attraction entrances. Note that some bus drivers may ask to see a physical card; carry a screenshot of your QR as backup. The digital pass activates the same way as the physical one — first scan starts your 72-hour window. If you prefer certainty at all transport modes, the physical card is slightly more reliable.
